Advanced Course for Special Support Education

Education for the Mentally-Disabled

This major is schemed to train educators who can help enrich education for children with special needs, especially those with intellectual disabilities. The curriculums consist of the class 1 license acquisition course and the vocational license acquisition course, each of which lasts for a year. To be eligible for enrollment in the class 1 license acquisition course, students must complete 4-year university education before application, and graduates are given a class 1 teaching license for special education upon successful completion of the course. On the other hand, the vocational license course requires students to acquire the class 1 teaching license for special education before application, and graduates are granted a vocational teaching license for special education upon successful completion of the course. Full-time classroom teachers at schools for special education are invited to share hands-on experience and guide research efforts on education, psychology, and physiology with unique perspectives and approaches to each discipline in close collaboration with the Faculty of Education. Further, researchers and practitioners specializing in education for children with intellectual disabilities are invited to promote in-depth understanding of LD, ADHD, autism, emotional disturbance, language disorder, and children with severe multiple disabilities.
